The heavens declare the GLORY of God, and the firmament shows HIS HANDYWORK . . .
Whispering Pines Camp is a registered charity, a not for profit year-round camp and retreat centre with a heart for kids of all ages. Founded in 1993, Whispering Pines Camp is a great place to shut out the noise of the world around you and listen to the whisper of God inviting you to come to a place where you can feed your soul.
We are members of the Evangelical Missionary Churches of Canada and Christian Camping International-Canada. As a Christian camp, we take principles of the Bible and make them relevant to everyday life.
Out in the beauty of the Cypress Hills of Southern Alberta lies Whispering Pines Camp, we’ve managed to stop time; where the focus is the treasure both outside of us and in.
The camps' 160 acres of magnificent property is sheltered on all sides by gorgeous hills, forest and park, where Elkwater Lake is a stone's throw away, great for swimming, boating and beach fun. Here you’ll find amenities like bunkhouses and athletic fields where you can live and play with a group…or many hiking trails where you can lose yourself in creation. Our camps range from kids’ camps, 50+ retreats, to horse camps and family camps. Offering facility rental with tent or RV sites for family reunions or weddings. What you won’t find is 9 to 5...
From over 30 activities to quality staff and volunteers, we are committed to providing a positive experience to our guests... and we would love to welcome you here!
Our Story, His-Story…from one who was there.
When I was a youngster, which was in the 1940's, folk of the Evangelical churches of Medicine Hat, Hilda, Burstall and Leader had to travel a great distance to Didsbury to attend summer camps. Some of the local pastors felt that we had enough campers that we could fill our own camp facility. A large tent was erected at the Elkwater Lake water front. This was so well attended that there was no doubt that a camp was in the offing.
In the 1950's the Cypress Baptist Camp south of Maple Creek became available for rent two weeks a summer which was used until 1994, but we still needed our own camp locally. Much time was spent looking for a suitable piece of real estate. Then in 1992 a real estate agent in Medicine Hat got wind of a
quarter section of land for sale north of the rodeo grounds near Elkwater…with the help from the Evangelical Missionary Church Conference the land was purchased and Whispering Pines Camp was born.
In the spring of 1993 the MD built a nice road into the camp property. The old school house at Irvine was offered to the camp for $500. In November of 1993 the school building was hauled out and placed on the foundation. We all were in anticipation that work would go on full force in the summer of 1994. Then on June 30th, 1994 tragedy struck when Pastor Vern Schorr was taken from us in a tragic car accident. This was a serious blow to everyone as he was the driving force, with a great vision of having this camp and convention centre up and running.
When the shock of the Schorr tragedy settled, arrangements were made to build cabins in his memory and honour. The churches at Burstall, Oyen, Hillcrest, Memorial (now River Park) and Little Plume all built cabins that were moved onto the camp property. The Wood Working class from Medicine Hat High School also built several cabins.
In the fall of 1994, remodelling on the old school building got going… an industrial size kitchen was the main thrust. Men’s and ladies’ showers and washrooms were built and a good well was drilled. A three bedroom mobile home was also purchased. In the summer of 1995 the first camp sessions were held.
Glory to God! Many children have attended since then and have been won to the Lord, which is the main purpose of the Whispering Pines Fellowship Centre and Camp.

Volunteer-Based
Over the years we have had hundreds of volunteers make our camp what it is. Our volunteers have been tireless in their desire to see lives changed and enhanced. Volunteering requires motivation, and motivation can only be sustained by passion. Whispering Pines Camp volunteers have an amazing track record and their greatest passion is to serve God.
There is no better time to become involved in volunteer activities than right now. With the troubled state of the world, people are looking to those who profess to know God, to see how they are responding to the needs of a hurt and dying world.
Whispering Pines Camp is located in the Cypress Hills near the townsite of Elkwater, AB. Elkwater serves as a hub of commerce for those enjoying the Alberta side of the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, and shares the same elevation as Banff.
Approximately 35 minutes south-east of Medicine Hat, the Cypress Hills are a year-round recreation area, consisting of a golf course, ski hill, a marina, and six pristine lakes, all within twenty minutes of the Elkwater townsite. The region boasts great fly fishing, skiing and hiking, and of course fantastic camping!
